A new home made individual through considered intervention, Standard Issue demonstrates what can be achieved when design works intelligently within parameters already in place.

Kahli Jayne Designs was engaged during construction to establish the interior design direction within a largely resolved architectural and building framework, before furnishing the home's principal spaces. A restrained palette of natural materials and tactile finishes creates a calm backdrop for family life, while considered spatial planning allows the home to adapt as its occupants' needs evolve.

CONCEPT  ·  Beyond the blueprint

With the floorplan and much of the building framework already established, the design focused on the interventions that could materially change how the finished home would look, feel and function.

Pale timber, soft neutrals, tactile textiles and darker accents establish continuity, while considered specification of finishes, fixtures and lighting creates a cohesive material language that gives the interior its individual character.

Furnishing extends that language — restrained in colour and clean in form, but softened through texture, material variation and the irregularity of natural finishes. Spatial planning allows living, dining, play and entertaining to coexist comfortably, with durable and adaptable pieces selected for a growing family.

The result is deliberately restrained but distinctly individual — a home shaped around its occupants rather than simply the parameters inherited.

THE EDIT  ·  Parisi tapware and Jardan lighting set the stage for Ethnicraft oak pieces, an MCM House dining setting, made-to-order King Living and custom Tolv upholstery, all offset by custom-sized Bayliss rugs. Commissioned work by Megan Cochran is layered with Weave Home and custom textiles, and objects from HAY, Audo, Ferm Living, and Kristina Dam Studio.
